The PCB is yet to confirm the list of players for the upcoming edition, as the official player draft for the next season is scheduled to take place on January 21, 2026.
Mustafizur was earlier slated to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which begins on March 26, but was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders following directives from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The decision came amid ongoing tensions between the two neighbouring nations.
The 30-year-old pacer had been bought for a hefty ₹9.20 crore at the IPL mini auction, making him the most expensive Bangladeshi player in the league’s history. His removal from the KKR squad triggered a series of strong reactions from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
In response, the BCB formally requested the ICC to shift Bangladesh’s matches in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 from India to Sri Lanka, citing security concerns for their players. The tournament is scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with the action set to begin on February 7.
